Calorie Emphasis Wrong-Headed?

An important 2-page article (plus references) reviewing

  • how a non-productive and misleading focus on calories as a primary direct target
  • has contributed to a very costly (money, lives and suffering) lack of focus on those highly effective dietary changes that can quickly and substantially improve health, (whether there is successful weight loss or not).

Note they refer to omega-3 fats. Research suggests that omega-3 fats are best obtained in food. Omega-3 fats given as capsules or other supplements may not be beneficial.

“It is time to stop counting calories, and time to instead promote good nutrition and dietary changes that can rapidly and substantially reduce cardiovascular mortality. The evidence indeed supports the mantra that “food can be the most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison”. Recommending a high fat Mediterranean-type diet and lifestyle to our patients, friends and families, might be a good place to start.”
